Fourth of July and America's 250th anniversary: Festivities in Connecticut
Independence Day and America’s 250th anniversary are just around the corner.
Many towns across the state will have fireworks displays and events to celebrate. Here is a list of festivities to come in July:
Bristol
East Lyme
Saturday, July 18: The Celebrate East Lyme Festival. The celebration will run from 1-10 p.m., with the fireworks display to end the night.
Enfield
Fairfield
Friday, July 3: There will be fireworks displays at Jennings Beach and Penfield Beach, both at 9:15 p.m., according to the state’s tourism site.
Greenwich
Thursday, July 2: Binney Park and Greenwich Point Park will have fireworks displays starting at dusk. The rain date is Saturday, July 11.
Guilford
Saturday, July 11: The town will celebrate with fireworks and a concert at the Guilford Fairgrounds. Gates open at 6 p.m., and a performance by the Shaded Soul Band will start at 7:30 p.m.
Hartford
Saturday, July 4: The city will celebrate with its annual Hartford Bonanza and an America 250 Capital Commemoration. Fireworks will start at Bushnell Park at 9:30 p.m. There will also be a free concert at 7:30 p.m. The rain date is set for Sunday, July 5.
Madison
Thursday, July 2: Fireworks are set to start at the waterfront area of West Wharf Beach at 9:30 p.m. Rain date is set for Friday, July 10.
Manchester
Saturday, July 11: James “Dutch” Fogarty Independence Day Celebration. The event begins at 4 p.m., and fireworks start at dusk. The rain date is Sunday, July 12.
Middlebury
Saturday, July 4: Fireworks start around 10 p.m. at the Quassy Amusement Park as part of the town’s 4th of July Beach Party. Admission is $20.
New Britain
Saturday, July 4: The town’s Great American Boom celebration has moved to Walnut Hill Park this year. Fireworks start at 9:15, and the rain date is Sunday, July 5.
New Canaan
Saturday, July 4: The town will host a Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular at Waveny Park. Tickets for the event will go on sale in June.
New Haven
Saturday, July 4: Fireworks set to start at East Rock Park at 9 p.m.
Newington
Saturday, July 18: A fireworks show set to start at 9:30 p.m. will close out the annual four-day “Life. Be in it. Extravaganza.”
New London
Saturday, July 4: There will be a fireworks cruise on the Thames River. Departure time and location are not yet announced. See the Thames River Heritage Park website for updates.
Saturday, July 11: Three Thames River Heritage Park water taxis will depart from Trumbull State Park at 5-minute intervals to bring out people to watch the fireworks show. The first leaves at 8:25 p.m. Fireworks start at 9 p.m.
Norwalk
Norwich
Friday, July 3: Fireworks begin at Norwich Harbor at 9:15 p.m. The fireworks close out the day’s festivities that start at 6 p.m., which include food trucks, face painting, and music.
Orange
Putnam
Saturday, July 11: Fireworks at Rotary Park starting at 9:15 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, July 19.
Roxbury
Saturday, July 4: Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. at Hurlburt Park. The display will be accompanied by a performance from the Waterbury Symphony that starts at 8 p.m., according to the state’s tourism website.
Simsbury
Friday, July 3: Fireworks will follow the annual “Celebrate America!” concert at the Simsbury Meadows Performing Arts Center. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. The rain date is set for Sunday, July 5.
Stafford
Wednesday, July 1: Fireworks display set to take place as part of the town’s SummerFest & Fireworks celebration. The event starts at 5 p.m., and fireworks will begin after dark. The rain date is Thursday, July 2.
Stratford
Thursday, July 2: Firework display set to begin around 9 p.m. at Short Beach.
Thomaston
Friday, July 31: Fireworks at Sanford Field starting at 9 p.m.
Vernon
Wednesday, July 8: The town’s annual firework display, July in the Sky, will take place in at Downtown Rockville and Henry Park. Fireworks will start after dark. The rain date is Thursday, July 9.
Waterbury
Saturday, July 4: Fireworks at Holy Land USA will begin at 9:15 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, July 5.
Warren
Saturday, July 4: Fireworks will start at 9:30 p.m. at Lake Waramaug.
Westbrook
Saturday, July 11: Fireworks display at the barge off short will begin at 9:15. See the town’s website for more information to come.
West Haven
Friday, July 3: Fireworks at Savin Rock Park begin at 9:15 p.m. There will also be live music performances from 7-9 p.m.
Friday, July 3: Fireworks at West Haven Beach following a live music performance at Grove Park that starts at 6 p.m.
Weston
Saturday, July 4: Fireworks at the Weston Middle School field begin at 9:20 p.m. as part of the Bell Ringing Ceremony and the Patriotic Tailgating Contest, which starts at 4:30 p.m., according to the state’s tourism website.
Westport
Thursday, July 2: Fireworks at Compo Beach are set for 9 p.m. Tickets for this event from the Westport Police Department went on sale June 1 and are still available. Tickets can also be purchased at 50 Jesup Rd and at the Parks and Recreation Office starting June 3, according to the town’s parks and recreation website.
