An inmate at the Cheshire Correctional Institution injured six officers Monday night following the discovery of contraband in his cell, according to the Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC).
Four of those officers were hospitalized, the DOC said.
After officers found contraband in the inmate’s cell around 8:50 p.m., the inmate approached two officers stationed in the housing unit and began striking them in the face. Additional staff members were injured as they responded to the altercation, officials said.
The staff was eventually able to safely secure the inmate.
The remaining two officers who were not hospitalized chose to stay on duty, according to the DOC.
This is an active investigation.
