34 dogs, 17 birds, 1 monkey found in Enfield home: Police
The Enfield and Wethersfield police departments executed a search and seizure warrant at an Enfield home on Tuesday, leading to the discovery of approximately 34 dogs, 17 exotic birds and one Capuchin monkey.
According to police, the warrant was executed in connection to a 2025 robbery in Wethersfield.
Several state departments, including the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the North Central District Health Department, responded to the scene to assist.
The Capuchin monkey was taken in by DEEP for rehoming.
In addition to large number of animals, police also recovered three firearms, ammunition and narcotics.
Police arrested one man and one woman as a result of the incident. Both were charged with risk of injury to a minor, cruelty to animals and illegal possession of a monkey.
The 45-year-old man was arrested on a $250,000 surety bond and also charged with three counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, operation of a drug factory and possession of narcotics with intent to distribute.
The 40-year-old woman was arrested on $25,000 non-surety bond, and had no additional charges.
Police said the Enfield Animal Control Officer is still investigating the conditions of the other animals.
