Two additional lawsuits have been filed against Busy Bees, the parent company of BrightPath, an Avon daycare center where a worker has been accused of sexually assaulting several children.
Jan Berrios-Otero, 29, was arrested on April 1 after an administrator at the BrightPath Avon Early Learning and Child Care Center contacted police about possible inappropriate contact involving a child.
Police investigated and said Berrios-Otero was seen on surveillance video lying next to a child with his hand under a blanket that was over the child. That family filed a lawsuit against the company in April.
In late April, Berrios-Otero was charged a second time for six additional alleged incidents involving five children.
Now, lawsuits have been brought up on behalf of two different children who attended the Avon location against Busy Bees, alleging that Berrios-Otero sexually assaulted them and that the company failed to keep them safe.
Both lawsuits are asking for $15,000. The attorney representing the children said the lawsuits are being served this afternoon.
On Saturday, Brightpath, which has several locations across the state, revealed in a letter to parents that Berrios-Otero filled in at daycare locations in Simsbury, at 555 Day Hill Road in Windsor, and on Park Road in West Hartford.
The company said it is not aware of any allegations or complaints at those locations.
