Two hospitalized after second-alarm fire in New London
Two people were hospitalized with minor injuries after a second-alarm fire on Colman Street on Wednesday night.
Firefighters responded around 10:27 p.m. and encountered heavy fire showing from the first floor, second floor and attic of the two-family residence, according to officials.
The fire extended to the exterior side of the adjacent two-family home.
Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from extending into the neighboring residence, limiting the damage to the exterior of the building, officials said.
There is significant damage to the home on Colman Street because of the fire.
According to officials, due to the volume of the fire a second alarm was transmitted, bringing additional off-duty New London firefighters and mutual aid companies to assist. No firefighters were injured while assisting in putting out the fire.
The American Red Cross is assisting four displaced occupants with emergency housing.
The fire remains under investigation by the New London Fire Investigation Team.
