New Britain Mayor Bobby Sanchez confirmed Saturday morning that State Police have opened an investigation into allegations of tax irregularities in the city.
Sanchez said the investigation is an important step toward accountability.
“The opening of a Connecticut State Police investigation underscores the seriousness of what was uncovered in this report. These are significant allegations involving the public trust, and they deserve a full and independent review,” Mayor Sanchez said in a statement. “We will continue to cooperate fully with any State Police investigation.”
Mayor Sanchez said the internal review has been expanded to investigate other possible abuses across all of City Hall.
“For too long, there were different rules for different people in City Hall. That time is over,” Mayor Sanchez said. “There cannot be one set of rules for the well-connected and another for everyone else.”
