
A teenager who was in critical condition after a shooting outside of a nightclub in Waterbury over the weekend has died and she is the second person who died in the shooting.
Officers were called to LA 42 Night Club on East Main Street for a report of shots fired around 12 a.m. Sunday. Once police were in the area, they said there was a large gathering and evidence of gunfire was present at the scene.
Police said an 18-year-old woman from Waterbury, later identified as Zaniya Dawkins, was found on the ground outside of the club. She was reportedly unresponsive and was suffering from a gunshot wound.
Nearby, officers said they also found a 22-year-old man, later identified as Trey-Von Dunbar, of Waterbury, with a gunshot wound. He was also found outside on the ground and was unresponsive.
Both Dunbar and the Dawkins were taken to the hospital for treatment. Investigators said Dunbar succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Police said Dawkins was unresponsive and was in critical condition after the shooting. She died of her injuries on Monday night.
After the shooting, the LA 42 Night Club closed. The permittee of the LA 42 Night Club canceled the establishment’s liquor permit, according to the Department of Consumer Protection Liquor Control Division. The club is closed, effective immediately.
