One person is dead and one person is hospitalized after a crash that happened just after 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Police said an officer was conducting a radar enforcement on Delavan Avenue and observed a Lexus traveling eastbound at an estimated speed of 50 mph in a 25 mph zone. The officer saw the vehicle go through a red traffic signal at the intersection of Delavan Avenue and Frontage Road.

The officer went in the same direction as the vehicle and saw that the vehicle had crashed on W. Ritch Avenue. The vehicle sustained significant damage after striking a roadside utility pole, according to police.

Officials mentioned the driver was extricated from the vehicle and died as a result of their injuries. A passenger in the front seat of the car was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The identity of the driver is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin, according to police.
