Man accused of breaking into Norwalk apartment, making threats about building ‘blowing up'

A man who is accused of breaking into an apartment in Norwalk and making threats about the building “blowing up” has been arrested.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Glover Avenue on Friday for a report of a residential burglary.

Police said a resident reported that a man had entered her apartment through a sliding door and announced, “inspection.”

According to police, the resident said she was awakened by the sound of the door being forced open and found a man in her kitchen removing knives from her knife block.

Investigators said the suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Nicolas Damjanovic, of Norwalk, stole six knives, made threats about the building “blowing up” and “everyone dying” and then fled the apartment.

Officers quickly found Damjanovic outside of the building and said he was in possession of the stolen knives.

Authorities said during the encounter, Damjanovic reiterated his threat and claimed the building’s fourth floor was in danger due to a gas leak and potential fire.

Firefighters responded and crews said they found a burnt rag on the stove in Damjanovic’s apartment, which they said was a potential fire hazard.

No injuries were reported.

Damjanovic is facing charges including home invasion and disorderly conduct. His bond is $100,000 and he is due in court on June 5.
