Large sailboat fire in Long Island Sound under investigation

Crews extinguished a boat fire near Belle Island in Norwalk over the weekend.

Firefighters said the large sailboat was on fire in Long Island Sound on Sunday around 2:45 p.m.

Once crews arrived, they said they found a sailboat stern heavily on fire.

Additional marine crews were brought in and the fire was brought under control with boat-mounted pumps and hose streams, the fire department said.

The occupants of the boat were able to escape safely. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
