5 people rescued from Long Island Sound near Milford
Emergency crews rescued five people who were in distress in Long Island Sound near Milford over the weekend.
Firefighters said two people were walking on the sandbar Sunday around 8 a.m. and got overcome by the incoming tide. Screams were reportedly heard from the shore-initiated 911 calls.
Fire officials said three bystanders from the shore in the Silver Sands-area jumped into the water in an attempt to help the two people who were already in the water.
Several crews responded and found all five people in distress. All of them were removed from the water and were evaluated. After an evaluation, two of the people were transported to the hospital for further care. Signs of hypothermia were reportedly a concern.
