Homemade cannon found inside vehicle during traffic stop in Vernon
An unusual item was found inside of a vehicle during a traffic stop in Vernon last week.
Police said an officer saw a vehicle operating erratically and committing several moving violations on West Main Street around 6:25 p.m. on Thursday. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop.
During the investigation, authorities said drug paraphernalia and suspected narcotics were found inside of the vehicle and the officer noticed signs of impairment from the driver.
According to police, while searching the vehicle, a homemade cannon was also found inside of the trunk.
The driver, identified by police as a 56-year-old man from Vernon, was given Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which investigators said he failed.
He was arrested and charged with DUI, narcotics offenses and multiple motor vehicle violations.
