Hartford’s former city treasurer reportedly accessed the treasurer’s office on Wednesday despite no longer working for the city, according to Mayor Arunan Arulampulam.
Carmen Sierra resigned her position on Monday.
After receiving reports that Sierra had accessed the office, Hartford police were called to ensure city property remained secure, according to the mayor.
Sierra was escorted from the building, according to someone inside City Hall.
“While not all facts are clear yet, it is unacceptable for any former elected official to access secure city facilities after vacating their position,” Arulampalam said in a statement.
NBC Connecticut reached out to Sierra for a comment but we have yet to hear back.
“We were made aware of the recent actions by former City Treasurer Sierra earlier today. We have serious concerns regarding the allegations at hand and are currently in contact with the administration and respective parties to understand the gravity of the matter,” City Council President T.J. Clarke II said in a statement.
