
The fourth archbishop of Hartford has died, the Archdiocese of Hartford announced Tuesday morning.
Archbishop Henry J. Mansell was 88 and died Tuesday morning, according to the archdiocese.
On Monday night, the Rev. Monsignor James Shanley said Mansell’s health was declining at Monsignor Bojnowski Manor in New Britain.
Mansell became archbishop of Hartford in December 2003 and was ordained a priest in Rome in 1962, according to the archdiocese’s website.
Pope Francis accepted Mansell’s retirement in October 2013, when he turned 76.
The Archdiocese of Hartford said it will soon provide more information about funeral arrangements.
