A family of eight, which includes four children, has been displaced after a fire at a home on Canterbury Street on Tuesday morning, firefighters said.
Firefighters were dispatched to the two-story home on Canterbury Street in the Blue Hills neighborhood around 7:06 a.m. for a report of a computer fire.
When they arrived, they saw smoke coming from the outside of the home and located an active fire on the first floor inside. They started spraying water at the fire with a handline within minutes, according to firefighters.
The fire quickly spread to the second floor and attic, where firefighters had to open walls and ceilings to find and extinguish the remaining fire. It was eventually brought under control, firefighters said.
One person in the home was sent to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
The Hartford Fire Department’s Special Services Unit is working with the American Red Cross to assist the family, consisting of four adults and four children, who was displaced.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Hartford Fire Marshal’s office.
