
Applications to become a Connecticut State Park lifeguard are now open, with tryouts taking place later this month, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
Tryouts will take place on Tuesday, March 17 and Saturday, March 21 at the Middletown Recreation Center. Anyone interested must submit an application online to receive a tryout time slot. Applicants must be at least 16 years old.
The tryouts will include a distance swim and hands-free water treading, an underwater swim, a timed submerged weight retrieval, and a strength assessment, according to DEEP.
Lifeguard opportunities are available at the following eight locations:
- Black Rock State Park in Watertown
- Burr Pond State Park in Torrington
- Hammonasset State Park in Madison
- Indian Well State Park in Shelton
- Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme
- Sherwood Island State Park in Westport
- Silver Sands State Park in Milford
- Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield
Part-time positions are available in the Torrington, Shelton and Milford locations, according to the Connecticut State Parks and Forests website.
