Gov. Ned Lamont announced on Wednesday that the state will send snow removal support to Rhode Island and Massachusetts early Thursday morning, according to Gov. Ned Lamont.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation will send 80 pieces of equipment, including trucks and snowblowers, and 125 trained drivers and mechanics to the two states starting at 3 a.m. on Thursday.
“Our CTDOT crews worked around the clock in the storm’s aftermath to get Connecticut’s roads clear and safe for all travelers, and I appreciate that they have accepted this mission to provide support to our neighbors,” Gov. Lamont said in a statement. “Their tireless dedication and commitment makes us proud.”
Connecticut’s assistance is deployed under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact. Connecticut has provided resources to other states under EMAC in response to major weather events in the past, including in 2016 to Maryland and Washington, D.C. due to a major winter storm, Lamont said.
The crews will work 24-hour shifts from Thursday through at least Sunday, March 1. The crews’ return depends on the possibility of more winter storms early next week, according to Lamont’s office.
