Hartford police officers and the state’s Department of Consumer Protection are looking into one of the bars where a West Hartford teen was fatally shot outside.

Camden Siegal, 17, was shot around 2 a.m. on Sunday, between the bars The Lady and Dark Horse Saloon on Ann Uccello Street.

Police said they believe Siegal was not an intended target in the shooting. Siegal died on Tuesday from his injuries. A second gunshot victim, a man in his twenties, is in critical but stable condition, police said.

The state Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) said the Liquor Control Division is in contact with the Hartford Police Department regarding the shooting. They said the city is “prepared to take further action” if investigators request or support it.

DCP said they have another open investigation into The Lady, specifically regarding an incident on New Year’s Day, but that there have been no other investigations since the bar opened under new ownership in 2024.

“Any act of violence in which we think that there were laws being broken by a bar or nightclub owner, in the lead up to that, we are going to take very seriously,” Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam said.

Siegal was an honor roll senior and played soccer and lacrosse at Hall High School. Funeral services will be held on Thursday.

West Hartford Superintendent Paul Vicinius said the loss was “incredibly difficult” and the impact on the school community s is “very painful.”

NBC Connecticut has reached out to The Lady for comment, but has not heard back at this time.
