A man’s body was found in a pond at Beardsley Park on Sunday afternoon, and police said he may have been in the water for more than a week.
The Bridgeport Police Department is still investigating the man’s identity and cause of death.
Two fishermen reported seeing an unresponsive body in the northern part of Bunnell’s Pond around 3:51 p.m. on Sunday. Firefighters removed the man’s “extremely decomposed” body from the pond when they arrived, according to police.
Police said that patrol officers, detectives, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner also responded to the scene.
“The man may have been in the water for a week, or more,” police said. “He was clothed and was carrying several personal items.”
The man’s autopsy was scheduled for Monday morning in Farmington. Police said that detectives may have to use forensic science to confirm the man’s identity.
Police are also looking at recent missing persons reports. They do not believe foul play was involved.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Bridgeport Detective Stavros Mirtsopoulos at (203) 581-5256.
