Arrest made connected to fatal March canoe accident in East Haddam
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection EnCon Police have made an arrest in connection to a fatal canoe accident in East Haddam in March.
Two people were in the canoe on Lake Hayward when the canoe capsized.
One was rescued by a good Samaritan, but the other went under the water. The body of 20-year-old Dominick Tocci of Woodstock was recovered two days later.
Police determined Tocci and the other person, a 20-year-old from Mineola, New York, had been drinking before going out in the canoe.
EnCon police obtained an arrest warrant for the second person. He turned himself in on Friday and was charged with operating a boat under the influence. He was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to be in court on July 23.
