The Ansonia Police Department has arrested one of their own after an off-duty incident earlier this month.
According to a release from the Ansonia Police, Officer Denyce Ruiz, 24, was arrested on August 21 and charged with disorderly conduct in connection with an off-duty incident that occurred on August 10, 2026.
The warrant was issued following a criminal investigation by the departments’ detective bureau.
“The Ansonia Police Department takes allegations of criminal conduct involving a member of this Department extremely seriously,” said Ansonia Police Chief Wayne Williams. “Our officers are held to a high standard both on and off duty, and when allegations of criminal conduct arise, it is our responsibility to ensure that they are investigated thoroughly and objectively.”
The department says that Officer Ruiz had previously been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation was being conducted.
The department’s internal administrative investigation has begun now that the criminal investigation is completed. The internal investigation is separate from the criminal and will examine the circumstances surrounding Ruiz’s conduct.
“That investigation will be conducted separately from the criminal matter and in accordance with applicable law, department policy and the officer’s contractual and due-process rights,” said Chief Williams. “Officer Ruiz is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”
