Recent measles case confirmed as third in Connecticut this year, DPH says
The Connecticut Department of Public Health announced on Monday that the state’s third case of measles this year has been confirmed.
The case involves an adult in Hartford County who recently returned to Connecticut after international travel, according to DPH.
The person was hospitalized with symptoms including high fever and later developed a rash. Their vaccination status is unknown, DPH said.
The case marks the third in 2026, which is the highest total Connecticut has had since 2019.
Across the country, there have been 2,777 total cases of measles this year. As of Aug. 20, that is the highest annual total nationally since 1991, according to the CDC. The CDC said that 94% of this year’s cases are outbreak-associated, and 93% of the patients were unvaccinated or had unknown vaccination status.
“This case is a reminder that measles remains a real risk for unvaccinated travelers, particularly to parts of the world where measles is still circulating widely,” DPH Commissioner Manisha Juthani said.
