
One resident and two firefighters were transported to the hospital after a house fire in Portland on July Fourth.
Emergency crews were clearing out from a waster rescue around 9:15 p.m. when they noticed an active fire from fire headquarters. It appeared to be on Evergreen Avenue.
A few minutes later, crews said it was determined to be a working structure fire. Additional crews were brought in after the flames extended to the second floor and attic.
According to fire officials, one resident was transported to the hospital while another resident refused treatment. Two firefighter were also transported to the hospital to be treated for heat exhaustion and have since been released.
Investigators said this was a very labor intensive fire and the high heat and humidity played a huge role in hindering the firefighting efforts.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
