UConn sophomore sensation Sarah Strong has been named the Ann Meyers Drysdale National Playor of the Year by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association on Wednesday, joining a long list of Huskies to win the honor.
Strong leads UConn in points per game (18.4 PPG), rebounds (7.5 RPG), blocks (1.6 BPG), and steals (3.3 SPG).
Her 117 steals ranks second in program history for the most in a single season.
Strong is already racking up hardware. She was named an AP and USBWA First Team All American last week. She is also the Big East Player of the Year.
Strong is the eighth UConn player to be named the USBWA Player of the Year, joining Rebecca Lobo (1995), Sue Bird (2002), Diana Taurasi (2003), Maya Moore (2009, 2011), Tina Charles (2010), Breanna Stewart (2014, 2015, 2016), and Paige Bueckers (2021).
UConn and Strong are onto the Sweet 16 and will play North Carolina in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday.
