With both of UConn’s basketball teams on the verge of winning (another) national championship, Gov. Ned Lamont announced that this Friday through Monday will be in honor of the Huskies.
The weekend will be officially known as “Connecticut is the Basketball Capital of the World and the UConn Basketball Student-Athletes are the Best and Most Talented in the Nation, So Let’s Support our Huskies in Bringing the NCAA Championship Trophies Back Home Where They Belong”… weekend.
Lamont is calling on Connecticut residents to show their Huskies pride by wearing UConn gear, sporting blue and white, and displaying those signs and flags with messages of support for the teams.
“I am so awestruck by the UConn basketball student-athletes for their elite-level performances that are setting a new standard in college sports and bringing an enormous amount of pride to Connecticut,” Lamont said.
The UConn women are scheduled to play the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Final Four on Friday. The UConn men are scheduled to play the Illinois Fighting Illini in the Final Four on Saturday.
