A two-foot-long lobster roll packed with two pounds of lobster meat, called the “Lobzilla” roll, is becoming a must-try for lobster lovers.
The Clam Castle in Madison rolled out the monster of a meal when the restaurant opened in April.
After seeing a 1.5 lb lobster roll in Maine, Gulshan Soni went to his business partner, Dave Donahue, and suggested they come up with something better.
“I said, ‘Dave, let’s make Madison a tourist destination, and let’s come up with something bigger idea’,” Soni said. “‘A two-pounder,’ he told me, ‘Are you crazy? Nobody is going to bite.’”
They came up with the “Lobzilla,” and since they started advertising it, more people have been ordering the $180 roll.
“The demand has been incredible,” Donahue said. “We had a woman buy five of them the other day for her family of six; it was crazy. She had a great time, so we’re really having fun with it, and we’re selling a lot of them.”
The Lobzilla is available all year round, and don’t worry, Soni said they won’t run out of lobster.
The Clam Castle plans to come out with a “Clamzilla” soon, a dish with three pounds of clams.
