Tolland’s Patrick Halgren took the silver medal in the Men’s Super-G (standing) event at the Milan Cortina Paralympics on Monday.
He finished just under a second behind gold medalist Robin Cuche, of Switzerland.
Halgren, a graduate of Tolland High School, was involved in a serious motorcycle crash in 2013, according to his Paralympic biography page. The accident left him in a coma for about a month. When he came out of the coma, doctors told him he would have to have his left leg amputated above the knee.
Halgren began para alpine skiing at the suggestion of his twin brother, Lucas, who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident in 2016. Patrick skis in his brother’s honor.
He first competed in the Paralympics in Beijing in 2022.
Monday’s silver is Halgren’s first Paralympic medal.
He also competed in the Men’s Downhill (standing) event on Saturday, but did not finish the race.
