Police have set up a perimeter around a home on Lake Drive in Enfield after finding at WWII-era motar round inside.

People nearby are being asked to shelter-in-place or to leave the area.

Officers initially responded to the home to speak to a man who allegedly threatened violence towards workers at the new Amazon facility jobsite in town, according to police.

When they arrived at the home on Lake Drive, the man initially refused to speak to the officers. He eventually agreed to allow officers into the home to remove firearms during their investigation, police said.

It was then that they discovered the mortar round.

The house was vacated and the perimeter was established in the area.

Police said there is no reason to believe the mortar round will detonate, but they aren’t taking any chances.

They are applying for a search warrant and then plan to have the bomb squad render the munition safe. Police said that process is likely to take several hours.
