Suspect arrested after New London police recover stolen vehicle with child inside
A male suspect was arested after New London police recovered a stolen vehicle with a child inside on Saturday.
Just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, the New London Police Department responded to a call for multiple people fighting on Bank Street.
Upon arrival, officers were told that a vehicle had been stolen with a six-year-old child inside.
Through a quick response by police and the assistance of public safety cameras, officers were able to quickly locate the vehicle on Jay Street.
The vehicle was found abandoned and the child inside was unharmed.
“This was a rapidly evolving and extremely serious incident involving the safety of a young child,” said New London Police Chief Brian M. Wright. “I commend the quick response and coordinated efforts of our officers, dispatch personnel, and Norwich Police Department. Their swift actions helped ensure the child was located unharmed and that a suspect was taken into custody.”
The suspect was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, risk of injury to child and reckless endangerment in the first degree.
The incident remains under investigation.
