The son of a retired deputy chief at the West Hartford Fire Department was killed on Monday after a ratchet strap snapped and struck him in the head, state police said.
Connecticut State Police said they responded to a medical assist report where a ratchet strap snapped and struck an individual in the head on Burnt Hill Rd in Hebron.
Shane Albert, son of retired West Hartford Fire Deputy Chief Keith Albert, was sent to the hospital with injuries and later died, according to state police.
The West Hartford Fire Department said Albert grew up around the firehouse.
“His kindness, warmth, and passion touched many lives both inside and outside our walls,” the fire department said in a Facebook post. “We ask our community to keep Chief Albert and his family in their thoughts as they navigate this profound loss.”
