‘Significant water main break' impacting multiple neighborhoods in Waterbury: city officials
A water main break is impacting multiple neighborhoods in Waterbury and crews are starting to make repairs on Tuesday morning.
The water main break happened on Tompkins Street near WF Kaynor Technical High School around 4:45 a.m.
The water department is assessing the extent of the damage and is beginning repairs. The city said due to the location of the break, power has been shut down at Kaynor Technical High School.
The break is also expected to impact water service throughout the Bunker Hill, Town Plot and Country Club neighborhoods, according to the city. Residents in those areas may already be experiencing reduced water pressure.
As repairs continue, many customers should expect to temporarily lose water service until the repairs are complete. It’s unclear exactly how long the repairs could take.
Waterbury Hospital has also been notified and is transitioning to its secondary water supply.
After the repairs, the water department will conduct water quality testing before the system is returned to normal operations.
