A Seymour police officer was arrested and is accused of misappropriating funds totaling more than $32,000, according to Seymour Chief of Police John Bucherati.
Officer Justin Quilty, who also served as president of the Seymour Police Union, was charged with larceny in the first degree following an investigation by Connecticut State Police, which revealed that $32,250.80 had been stolen from the union’s bank accounts for personal use, Bucherati said.
The investigation began in October 2025, when officers discovered discrepancies in union bank accounts, which “strongly indicated that Officer Quilty had misappropriated funds,” according to Bucherati.
Investigators found that $17,400.80 of those misappropriated funds were deposited directly into Quilty’s personal bank account, and $14,850 was withdrawn as cash from an ATM, according to an affidavit.
Quilty had been on administrative leave since then. He remains on leave pending the outcome of a criminal investigation by state police and an internal investigation by the Seymour Police Department.
Bucherati issued the following statement:
“We are committed to transparency and accountability. These allegations are serious, and we will continue to cooperate fully with the Connecticut State Police while ensuring due process is respected. It is important to note that the actions of one officer do not represent the values of the other sworn officers who serve the citizens of Seymour.”
Quilty joined the Seymour Police Department in August 2022, according to Bucherati.
He was processed, released on bond, and is expected to appear in court later this month.
