PURA approves lower electric rates that could save customers over $30 a month

PURA approves lower electric rates that could save customers over $30 a month

The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority conditionally approved decreased electric rates on Wednesday for Eversource and United Illuminating customers starting May 1.

According to PURA, Eversource customers could see an approximately $30 decrease in their monthly bills and UI customers could see a monthly decrease of about $34.

The decreased rates come as a result of lower public benefits charges — specifically those tied to the Millstone and Seabrook nuclear energy contracts — and lowered hardship protection costs for the companies, according to PURA.

The decreased rates are effective through April 30, 2027. However, PURA said the approved rates my be adjusted effective Sept. 1 based on review of the previous calendar year’s actual revenues and approved expenses.
