Protestors gathered in Middletown Wednesday morning in response to the death of a 26-year-old man in Biddeford, Maine who was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Monday.

An ICE spokesperson said the agents were conducting “a targeted surveillance on the last known address of an illegal alien with a final order of removal. An illegal alien departed the residence in a vehicle. ICE law enforcement attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. The vehicle attempted to flee the scene and fearing for public safety an officer discharged his weapon.”

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the victim, John Sebastian Guerrero of Colombia, was not the target of the arrest warrant.

Guerrero was authorized to work in the United States and had been issued a Social Security Number.

“I am an immigrant. I’ve been in this country for 54 years. I’m from Colombia, so from the same country where the last killing in Maine,” said Rosario Caicedo, one of the protestors who congregated in Middletown at 7 a.m., the same time Guerrero was killed.

Caicedo and the others were also protesting ICE’s actions in the shooting and killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston, Texas that occurred one week prior.

Among the protestors were members of Middlesex Indivisible, a group that holds protests criticizing the Trump administration and the actions of ICE in conducting deportations.

“We need to tell people that this is happening while they’re walking, while they are driving to work, that the government that they…some of them trust is murdering people,” Caicedo said.
