Norwich Public Utilities says customers will see higher bills in June due to inflation, geopolitical unrest

Customers of Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) will see higher bills starting in June.

The public utility entity announced this week that, due to several factors, residential and commercial customers will see the impact on their bills starting June 1.

They said that due to increased costs for electricity and natural gas, NPU had to increase its purchase power adjustment and purchased gas adjustment.

NPU stressed that the higher costs are not a rate increase but “a reflection of an increased cost of these commodities” and that additional funds will be going to their suppliers.

According to NPU, electric residents will see a $20 per month increase, and natural gas residents will see a $5 per month increase.

NPU said there are three key things driving the increase. The first is inflation; the second is supply and demand, with this past winter being one of the coldest the state has seen in recent years, and geopolitical unrest affecting fuel prices.

Anyone who needs assistance in managing their bills can go to NPU to learn more.
