A math teacher at Norwich Free Academy, who is also the head wrestling coach, was charged with risk of injury to a child and assault in the third degree on Tuesday, according to the state’s judicial website.
The charges come one day after Head of School Dr. Nathan Quesnel sent an email to the NFA community stating that the teacher had been placed on administrative leave.
Quesnel said the alleged incident took place during the winter sports season. He did not discuss the nature of the incident, but said the school took immediate action after learning of the allegation.
NFA notified the Department of Children and Families and placed the teacher on administrative leave. It was not clear when the school learned about the alleged incident and when the teacher was placed on leave. However, he was arrested on April 16, according to the state’s judicial website.
He was held on a $10,000 bond and will be arraigned in court in Norwich on April 30.
