The Town of North Haven is working to find the people responsible for illegally dumping large items on Valley Service Road.
First Selectman Michael Freda called the sight an “absolute disgrace” and said he is working with the police department to find the culprits.
“I’ve got the backs of the people from North Haven. We know these people are not from North Haven; they probably are even from out of state, so we’re coming after them. They can run, but they can’t hide.”
The dumped items include mattresses, bed springs, sofas, and a small boat.
Resident Ronald Passander called the behavior outrageous.
“It’s disgusting, people have no responsibility, why don’t they just take it to the dump?” Passander asked.
Freda said the town’s public works department will clear out the trash using two large dumpsters and will also seek reimbursement from taxpayers.
“Once these criminals are found, we’re going to not only arrest them, but we’re going to make them pay for our time that our taxpayers are spending on our public works to pick up this mess,” Freda explained.
In addition, North Haven has plans to install surveillance cameras on Valley Service Road to help deter illegal dumping.
