Newington police seek help in identifying driver that struck patrol car twice
The Newington Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a driver that intentionally struck a patrol vehicle multiple times in an attempt to flee Tuesday afternoon.
At around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, a Newington police officer attempted a traffic stop on a white Honda Accord that had just parked near the Dollar Tree located on 40 Cedar Street.
The officer detected multiple motor vehicle violations and also recognized that the vehicle matched the description of a vehicle that had previously fled from police.
The officer positioned the patrol car in front of the parked Honda and turned on the emergency lights and siren.
The driver of the Honda then attempted to flee by accelerating forward and intentionally hitting the patrol car. The driver then reversed the car and accelerated forward again, hitting the patrol car a second time, according to police.
Police said the Honda was then able to maneuver around the patrol car and fled the scene.
Police described the Honda as having a tinted license plate cover encasing a California license plate 7JMV266. This plate does not match the vehicle, according to police.
Police also said the Honda appeared to have a lowered suspension and a black front fender on the passenger side.
