A second suspect was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a stolen check worth more than $300,000 that was intended to help pay for the construction of Wilton’s new police headquarters, according to police.
The first suspect, a 62-year-old man from Brooklyn, New York, was arrested in July 2025 and was charged with larceny in the first degree and identity theft in the first degree. His bond was set at $1 million.
The check was deposited into the account of the 62-year-old man from Brooklyn, New York, who impersonated the intended recipient. Immediately after the check was deposited into that man’s account, $150,000 was transferred to the personal account of a 24-year-old man from the Bronx, New York, police said.
The man from the Bronx “subsequently withdrew and benefitted from those funds,” according to police.
Wilton police traveled to New York City on Wednesday and arrested the 24-year-old man from the Bronx. He was charged with larceny in the first degree and conspiracy to commit larceny in the first degree.
He was held on a $500,000 bond and appeared in court for his arraignment on Wednesday.
Both men were identified through bank surveillance footage and investigations by Wilton detectives, police said.
