New York City says police officer died in Kuwait during Operation Epic Fury
The New York City Police Department said one of its officers died while deployed in Kuwait in support of Operation Epic Fury.
NYPD Officer Sorffly Davius, a 12-year veteran of the department assigned to the 79th Precinct, suffered an unspecified medical episode Friday, the NYPD announced.
Davius served in the 42nd Infantry Division in the U.S. Army National Guard and had risen to the rank of major.
“His career was defined by service — to his country and to New York City,” a joint statement from Commissioner Jessica Tisch and Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Saturday.
“Our thoughts are with Officer Davius and his entire family as they mourn his loss. May his memory be a blessing.”
Gov. Kathy Hochul also reacted to the news of Davius’ death.
“Devastated by the loss of Major Davius, a true Citizen Soldier, devoted husband, and father. I’ve personally conveyed my condolences to his wife and am keeping his loved ones in my thoughts,” she wrote on social media.
At least six U.S. service members have been killed in the Middle East since the conflict between the U.S., Israel and Iran began last week.
The remains of those fallen service members arrived at Dover Air Force Base on Saturday. President Donald trump and Vice President JD Vance, among other officials, attended the dignified transfer.
