A man in New Haven was arrested after assaulting a police officer, an incident police say is not his first.
According to New Haven police an officer was making a routine drive into the department headquarters on Tuesday when a man ran up to his car.
The 23-year-old man began banging on the hood as if he needed help but attacked the officer, unprovoked, as the officer got out of the vehicle to help, officials said.
The man punched the officer several times and the two engaged in a struggle that drew the attention of other officers driving in the area. Those officers were able to intervene and help take the man into custody, according to police.
He was charged with assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, and interfering with police before being held on a $150,000 bond.
The man was arrested previously in October 2025 for attacking New Haven police officers in an unprovoked assault. Prior to that he was arrested on two other occasions for attempting to damage police cars.
