A Meriden man is facing a slew of charges after a shooting in Massachusetts, and police found drugs in his vehicle.
The Meriden Police Department arrested 30-year-old Javier Nieves on March 26 based on an investigation by the Springfield Police Special Victims Unit into a shooting that happened on March 15.
Springfield police responded to a ShotSpotter activation on Maple Street. When they got to the scene, they saw that two cars had been struck by gunfire, and a window at a local elementary school had been damaged.
The Springfield police SVU began investigating, as this was in connection with domestic violence.
Detectives were able to tie Nieves to the shooting and were granted a warrant for his arrest.
Working with Meriden police, law enforcement officers applied for and were granted a search warrant for Nieves’ home and car. Springfield and Meriden police located Nieves, and he was placed under arrest.
During a search of his car, officers recovered 30 grams of suspected cocaine, 10 pills of suspected fentanyl, and more than 128 grams of marijuana, along with firearms that were stolen out of North Carolina, police said.
Nieves was charged with two counts of theft of a firearm, illegal possession of an assault weapon, possession of narcotics, operating a drug factory, and stalking, among other charges.
Nieves is held in Connecticut on a $750,000 bond and will be extradited to Massachusetts, officials said.
