Man dies after falling into confined area in barge bay in New Haven

A man has died after falling into a confined area in a barge bay in New Haven early Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to the 400 block of Waterfront Street around 2:45 a.m. for a confined space rescue.

Once emergency crews arrived to the area, they said they found a man who was approximately 60 years old who had fallen from a barge into a confined area in a barge bay. He was reportedly in cardiac arrest.

Fire officials said crews used an extensive rope operation to remove him.

The man was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released.
