‘Major' water main break closes part of Huntington Road in Stratford
Crews are responding to a “major water main break” involving a 30-inch water transmission main that is affecting the north end of Stratford on Tuesday afternoon, town officials said.
The water main break prompted the closure of Huntington Road to all traffic between numbers 2810 and 3300, police said.
Officials ask that residents in the area stay in their homes or avoid the area.
“The roads need to be evaluated for safety due to the large amount of water over and under the road,” officials said.
Residents may also experience low water pressure or temporary interruptions to their water service while repairs are underway, according to police.
Town officials said the break happened on Huntington Road north of the Merritt Parkway. Crews from Aquarion Water Company, Stratford Public Works, police, fire, and emergency management are on the scene.
Drivers are asked to avoid the immediate work area and use alternate routes.
Town officials are asking residents to conserve water whenever possible while repairs are underway.
Once water service is restored, some customers may notice cloudy water. Officials said running cold water for several minutes should clear it. At this time, there is no boil water advisory in effect, according to officials.
