Hartford Athletic goalkeeper coach tapped by Ghana for World Cup
The Hartford Athletic’s goalkeeper coach is headed to the World Cup.
Dan Gaspar has been appointed the goalkeeper coach for the Ghana National Team ahead of the tournament this summer.
This marks Gaspar’s third appearance on soccer’s biggest stage. He has previously worked with Portugal, Iran, and South Africa.
Gaspar is a Hartford native who now lives in Glastonbury who has more than 35 years experience training goalies.
“Representing a nation at the World Cup is one of the highest honors in football,” Gaspar said in a statement. “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with the Ghana National Team and, for the 3rd World Cup, with Head Coach, Carlos Quieroz. I am honored to contribute to their success on the world stage.”
Gaspar founded the Star Goalkeeper Academy in 1995 and has trained thousands of young athletes over the years.
He will take a leave of absence from the Hartford Athletic to join the Ghana National Team.
The World Cup runs from June 11 through July 19 with matches being played in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
Ghana’s first match is June 17 against Panama in Toronto.
