A former subsitute teacher in Hamden has been arrested and charged with having sexual contact with children, according to school superintendent Gary Highsmith.
Jack Gill worked at a substitute in Hamden schools on various dates between September 2025, and January 2026, according to Highsmith.
The superintendent sent an email to parents on Wednesday.
Gill worked as a substitute at Shepherd Glen Elementary School, Bear Path Elementary School, and Hamden High School. He worked as a substitute as a classroom teacher and during specials, such as art, music, and physical education.
On January 21, a student at Shepherd Glen reported to the school staff that Gill had touched them inappropriately during class in December, according to Highsmith.
School administrators began an investigation and notified the authorities, Highsmith said.
Gill was employed by the temporary agency Kelly Services. Administrators also contacted the agency about the allegations.
The school district had not received any complaints about Gill prior to January 21, but a day after making their report, they learned another school district made a report about similar conduct involving Gill while he was a substitute in that district, according to Highsmith. He did not specify which district was involved.
Gill passed a background check by Kelly Services, Highsmith said.
The superintendent said the district is reviewing its substitute teacher usage.
