Goldie Hawn reacts to Meryl Streep saying she had ‘beef' with her on the set of ‘Death Becomes Her'

Goldie Hawn knows it’s all fun and games when it comes to her friendship with Meryl Streep.

In an interview with Vanity Fair released April 30, Streep, 76, rewatched scenes from her famous films, including 1992’s “Death Becomes Her.” Recalling her time on set with Hawn, the Oscar winner shared that she had “beef” with her co-star for always running late.

“Goldie, she was always late to set,” “The Devil Wears Prada 2” star said. “But she was so adorable. And I’m always on time, you know — and annoying. But she’s late and she had a red convertible, I remember, and she’d drive herself to set. So that was probably the problem.”

“She’d drive herself to set. She had her hair all,” Streep continued, before imitating Hawn, saying, “‘Oh, gosh, sorry!’ And everybody thought, ‘Oh, she’s so cute.’ Yeah. So I had a beef with her. But I loved her. I love her.”

Hawn, 80, was then asked what she thought about Streep’s comment, confirming that she tends to not be on time.

“I think I’m 15 minutes late to everything,” Hawn told “Entertainment Tonight” in an interview shared May 6. “I do. I mean, honestly, it’s unbelievable.”

However, Hawn said, “I think we got through that.”

In “Death Becomes Her,” Streep’s Madeline and Hawn’s Helen go head-to-head, vying for the same man, plastic surgeon Ernest, portrayed by Bruce Willis. The dark comedy, now a cult classic, touches on themes of aging, beauty and the measures one will go to in order to stay forever young.

Hawn added that she and Streep have “been such good friends for so long” and her tardiness is just one of their jokes.

“So she says I was too late on the set,” Hawn continued, quipping, “Maybe, she’s too early?”

“Sometimes when you’re too early, you’re still waiting for somebody and you think, ‘Oh God, where the hell is she?!’” she joked.

In her interview with Vanity Fair, Streep praised her longtime friend by noting that Hawn has “the best laugh in America.”

“She’s one of my buddies and over the years we’ve had some laughs about that movie because people love it,” Streep said. “I thought it was like a documentary on Beverly Hills.”
