Firefighters respond to house fire and car fire at the same time in North Haven

Firefighters were busy in North Haven on Friday night as they had to respond to a house fire and car fire at the same time.

Around 7:15 p.m., firefighters responded to a house fire on North Hill Road. Once in the area, firefighters began an aggressive interior attack on the first floor.

According to fire officials, due to the location, water supply was a challenge and required two engine companies to lay 1,800 feet of supply hose and relay pump water to the scene.

At that point, the fire had extended into the walls of the building with fire on floors one and two and heavy smoke and heat in the attack, firefighters said.

Investigators said five people are displaced from the house due to fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

While crews were responding to the house fire, a car accident and fire happened on Washington Avenue near exit 12. EMS in the area reported a fully-involved car fire. Firefighters responded to control the fire and stayed on scene to help support the police investigation.

Three additional medical emergencies also happened while crews were at the house and car fires that could not be answered by the fire department, fire officials said.
