Police have made an arrest in a road rage incident in East Haven.
Officers responded to Foxon Road at Green Street on April 14 for a report of a road rage incident. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from serious facial and head injuries lying on the ground next to his vehicle. He was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital.
According to police, a witness told them the incident started on Foxon Boulevard in New Haven with the victim and a motorcyclist and ended on Foxon Road in East Haven. The witness told police the motorcyclist and the victim were driving erratically before the assault.
When the two men stopped by Green Street, the men got into a fight. The witness told officers the motorcyclist punched the victim several times and then struck him with his motorcycle helmet after the victim had fallen to the ground.
Police got a second 911 call that the motorcyclist had taken off and was near Rock Street. Officers found the motorcyclist just over the town line in North Branford. When they tried to take him into custody, he took off on Foxon Road towards New Haven without being caught.
Police put images of the motorcycle on social media and got tips about the operator. They were able to identify the operator as a 28-year-old from North Branford. They obtained an arrest warrant and arrested him on Thursday at his home in North Branford.
He was charged with first-degree assault, interfering with an officer, engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, and second-degree breach of peace.
He was released on $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 6.
