East Haven make arrest in connection with November street takeover
East Haven police have arrested someone in connection to a street take over last November where a police cruiser was attacked, officials said.
Several officers responded to the ShopRite Plaza on Foxon Road just before 2:30 a.m. in response to a report of numerous vehicles blocking the road, performing burnouts, and people setting off fireworks.
When the first officer arrived, he was confronted by several masked people, according to police.
One person sprayed the officer’s cruiser with a fire extinguisher, then threw it at the cruiser.
Multiple people climbed onto the police vehicle and began kicking it, police said.
According to officials, the people fled the scene before returning to taunt officers again. Police said that the same vehicles were later seen in surrounding towns.
East Haven investigators worked to develop several suspects, officials said.
One of those suspects was 20-year-old Liam Walsh of Somerville, Massachusetts. Police said Walsh was taken into custody by the Massachusetts State Police Fugitive Task Force on March 18 and was extricated on March 24.
Walsh was charged with inciting injury to a person or property, first-degree criminal mischief, unlawful assembly, second-degree breach of peace, and first-degree criminal mischief.
Walsh was held on a $100,000 bond and is set to appear in New Haven Superior Court on Wednesday.
Police said that additional suspects have already been identified and the investigation is ongoing, with more arrests expected.
